Lord Provost of Glasgow
Councillor Eva Bolander

As many of you will know, Glasgow City Council has been working with Malawi since 2004. During this time, we have worked with a number of organisations and partners, in Scotland and Malawi.

Landlocked Malawi is among the world's least developed countries. One child in eight dies before reaching age 5. Malnutrition is widespread and nearly half of all children under 5 have delayed development. Through the Lord Provost's Malawi Fund, our projects focus on health and education, aimed at improving access to modern health facilities and providing IT equipment and training to teaching staff in schools, colleges and universities, as well as medical and administrative staff in hospitals and clinics.

We work closely with Lilongwe City Council. This city to city cooperation ensures that aid reaches those most in need and that all our projects are developed and delivered in partnership with our Malawian colleagues.

Recent projects include providing IT equipment and training to teachers, the construction of a HIV/AIDS clinic at Chikwawa District Hospital, and a Prosthetics and Orthotics clinic at Kamuzu Central Hospital. Between 2004-2019, we have shipped 6,472 items of medical equipment, 11,016 boxes of medical supplies, and 3,480 desktop and 250 laptop computers to Malawi (updated May 2019).

As always, your assistance is vital to ensure we maintain our commitment to the people of Malawi. Please take a moment to look at what we've been doing and consider how you might help Glasgow to make a real difference to the lives of Malawians.
